Repair Cafe at Ormiston Town Centre

Turning old into gold with free clothing repairs

Inspired by Kohan Zari Ko — meaning “turning old to gold” — Ormiston Town Centre is proud to host a community-led sewing group at our very own Repair Café. This free initiative is all about creativity, connection, and giving new life to something you love.

Held every second Thursday in the Cultural Hub, the Repair Café offers free small clothing repairs while you shop. Whether it’s a missing button, a loose hem or a small tear, bring it along and the talented team will take care of it. Curious about sewing? They’re more than happy to show you how to use a sewing machine or teach a few simple stitches too.

Where: Cultural Hub, next to New World
When: Every second Thursday
Time: 11AM to 1PM

How it works:
Simply bring a clean clothing item that needs a small repair or light alteration. Our friendly sewing volunteers will fix it while you enjoy your time at the Centre. No bookings are required and the service is completely free.

This initiative is proudly supported by New Settlers Family and Community Trust, Ormiston Town Centre, Arts Out East and Te Tuhi.
